January 30 ~ Pattern

This delicate little flower was in my garden last summer, and now I am trying to winter it over.
The flower measures less than 3 cm across, so I took a  micrto shot for this.
Until I looked at it on the computer, I didn't notice the 'hatch' marks,
made from the pattern of the sun shining through the screen!

January 26 ~ The Great Canadian Dilemma

If I'm five years old,
and skating on the canal with my Amma,
and wearing my protective hocky helmut and face mask,
and she buys me a Beaver-tail,
... How can I eat it?????

January 25 ~ Cousins

Duncan wanted to push the little ones ...  he's such a great skater!

Saturday, January 24 ~ On the Canal

A dream come true - the whole family skating on the canal!
Saturday amorning was perfect - only -2!

Friday, January 23 ~

My lens would not focus on the ice, so the glazed 'flowers' are blurry, but an interesting shot anyway.

January 15 ~ Unexpected

On a walk through the Glebe, I captured these still cheery Christmas balls,
not expecting that I was taking a self -portrait, x5!

January 14 ~ The Canal

I can't resist posting another skating picture - today, with Tanya, under brilliant skies,
on ice like glass and with the temperature at -18!
We are SO lucky to live in this amazing city!

January 9 ~ Women on Skis

I'm always delighted that we have great skiing right IN the city of Ottawa, at Mooney's Bay.
Even the trucks on Riverside Drive aren't a deterrent!
Today was the start of the 32 nd season for Women on Skis!

January 8 ~ Winter Lights

In our back yard, the lights bounce off the ice on the tree.
A long exposure captured this image.

January 5 ~ Swimming (in January?)

Eight weeks post-surgery, three weeks back in the pool,
and delighted to finally be back swimming (slowly) in my previous lane, with my swim buddies!

January 3 ~ Quintessentially Canadian

I'd like to think that this photo says it all about who we are as Canadians ...
pick-up family hockey game on a frozen pond!
In reality, this happens only rarely due to weather conditions,
so I'm grateful to experience this moment!

January 2 ~ Day 2 of skating

Blue skies today, and a skiff of snow on the ice.
My friends, Andrea and Judy, are taking their dogs for a  'skate?' on the ice.
How lucky we are to live in a place with incredible recreation opportunities so close!

January 1 ~ My turn!

Although we didn't have blue sky, Nancy and I did have a great skate on fantastic ice at Meech Lake, to start the New Year!
Happy New Year to my blog readers!

December 31 ~ Meech Lake Skating

Last day of the year and a picture of Meech Lake - usually posted in the summer!
But for a few rare days every few years, the ice forms for skating.
In the sunshine, it looks like a postcard!
My friend, Michelle, sent me this photo and reported on the great conditions.
