June 18: on our way to Hong Kong!

June 29: Delayed!

Helen and I were 'supposed' to leave for Hong Kong this morning.

However, our flight was delayed for 14 hours, and now we are leaving tonight.

So, at noon, Bob and I biked downtown to catch a free Jazz Festival concert.

This photo is not from the concert, but my camera is packed!

Tonight, we went to see the wonderful RCMP Musical Ride.

In the past few years, we have been going every year because it is always somewhat different,

but The Ride is always the same.

I took loads of photos - it was hard to select the 'best' one,

 but I like the way the sun catches the horses on this one.

June25: Picking Strawberries

Aaron and I picked strawberries today. It was team-work; I picked berries from the plants and Aaron picked them from my basket!

The Guelph grandkids love their backyard pool. Topher and Koda, the two young ones, are now lifejacket swimmers. Koda found her independence during this swim.

Baby X was born today at 7 PM.

He checked in at 9 lb, 14 oz ... a Whopper!

Megan is very well and very happy, as are we all.

Congratulations Megan and Lee!!!

June 14: Painting en plein aire

Today my art class met at Petrie Island
to paint 'en plein aire'.
In the sun, watercolor dries very quickly and it is much more challenging to get the result that I want.
I took this photo of one of my classmates, then I liked the scene so much that I painted it!
I'm not finished yet, though.

June 13: Five Poppies

This painting is based on five photographs that I took of poppies through their blooming period.

I wanted to capture the wildness and abandonment with which they grow in our garden.

I used a new red paint called Scarlet Lake, and it is very strong!

I like the overall effect.

June 12: Photo from the waterfront

The section of the Gatineau River where our Cascades Canoe club is located, is beautiful.

Every picture captures different sky, light and water conditions.

In this picture, I love the reflections of the clouds and the light on the background.

June 11: Aaron 'n ice cream

Really, it's gelato.from Truffle Treasures in Westboro.
Aaron chooses by colour... This one was pink - cranberry-lemonade delicious flavour.
Too bad I just had to help him lick it up!
My friend, Lara, makes the gelato and creates the amazing flavours.

June 10: Evening at the Waterfront

Even my i-touch camara was able to capture the beauty of this evening.

The river looks like glass, reflecting a dark sky but bright light on the hills.

June 9: Head Shot

A  'Head Shot' usually refers to a head and shoulders portrait of someone.

This 'head shot' is of a resting group of dragon boat team members resting in between races!

We were in Lachine (Montreal) for races today.





June 8: Paddling Friends

There was wonderful light on the river tonight after paddling.
The scenery makes a beautiful backdrop to my friends
Helen, Beirong, Guylaine, Lara, Joy and Nancy.

June 7: Damodar's Home

This is a photo sent to me by my friend, Apil, in Nepal.

It is a picture of his parent's home, just outside Pokhara.
I first had the privilege to visit Damodar and Sanu's home in 1997,
then again in 2001 and 2011.
Now  Apil is able to take a photo on his cell phone, email it to me,
then I can post it on my blog for them to see!
Amazing!!!

June 6: Red Poppies

Just when I thought that poppy season was over,

I walked past a neighbour's home where red ones were still blooming.

Indeed, they were past their best, but still beautiful.

I like the red ones better than the orange ones.



June 5: Rainbow

Last night at dragon boat practice, we had the most spectacular evening light ever ...

but I didn't have my camera with me!

Last week, we sat out a downpour and were rewarded with this lovely rainbow!

Many strollers, cyclists and families enjoy the boardwalk along the shores of Dow's Lake.

A lone evening runner was on the canal, where it is close to opening on to Dow's Lake.

I like that the runner is in shadow, but the tops of the trees opposite catch the setting sunlight.

When the Tulip Festival was on, we went for en evening walk to Dow's Lake.

The sun was setting, glinting off of the Arts Tower at Carleton University,

and giving this lovely reflection in the lake.

June 1: Camera Club

Meet my Camera Club friends ... Peg, Cindi, Charles, Glenn, Lyn and Dwight.

Last week we met at Andrew Haydon park on a beautiful sunny day,

 and took portraits of each other!

After that experience, we put the self-timer to work!
