Jan. 30 ~ Cuba

Another Beach Surprise was this flock of gulls,
trying to 'catch' bits of food that was being tossed in the air for them.

Jan. 29 ~ Cuba

After almost an hour's beach walk, we came to this deserted lagoon, rich with colour and reflections.

Jan., 28 ~ Cuba

More Wonders of the Sea -  not to mention, Wonders of my Camera!
Taken on Micro setting, the colours are not visible to my naked eye,
but my lens found blue and yellow in the shallow water.

Jan. 27 ~ Cuba

The ecosystem of the beach can produce  unknown wonders.
Although I have seen these things before, I have no idea what they are.
The size of a marble, I call them Sea Eyeballs!

Jan. 26 ~ Cuba

Cuba  is an ever popular place for weddings,
but not every  member of the wedding party has a long attention span.
The beach calls, even to Flowergirls!

Jan. 25 ~ Cuba

A walk on the beach is often a surprising event!
You never know who (or what!) is going to 'drop' in!

Jan. 24 ~ Cuba

What is Cuba without pelicans?
Actually, there were three, but the third one dove out of my lens range!

Jan. 23 ... Cuba

At sunset, the palm trees glowed with rich, vibrant yellows.

Jan. 22 ~ A break from the ~Cold~

Ah ... the beach ... warm water... bare feet ... sand .... sail boats .... +30!

Jan. 21 ~ Too Cold!!!

At  - 20something this morning, it was too cold for me to go skating.
Some brave souls were on the canal, but I'm posting a photo from a few days ago!

Monday 20 January 2014

Jan. 2- ~ A triad

Three interesting buildings ... The Westin Hotel, the new Conference Centre,
and the Beavertails Shack on the canal!

Jan. 19 ~ The Big Machines

Skaters owe huge appreciation to the drivers who operate these big machines.
They smooth our skating experience!

Jan. 18 ~ in the Glebe

I think that bicycles are art, as much as 'Art' is art.
This lovely composition is on Bank Street, on the corner across from Starbucks.

Jan 17 ~ The Canal

The joy of skating early on a weekday  morning ...
solitude!

Jan. 16 ~ Glorious Ice Today

After being closed for several days because of the January Thaw,
the canal opened again this morning.
This ice was fantastic! It was a joy to skate, enhanced by my New Blades!

Jan. 15 ~ Finally ...

... I found something beautiful in this January Thaw.
The lovely sunset colours are reflected in the wet pavement,
and the sky is glowing with winter colours!

Jan. 14 ~ Art Class

After a year of not taking art classes, and little inspiration to work on my own,
I finally returned to class today.
Ah, winter does make a beautiful subject!

Jan. 13 ~ January Thaw

The passenger on this snowmobile is Hallie Cotnam, from CBC Ottawa Morning.
She was doing a piece about the ski patrollers' job and interviewed us at the yurt.
Her piece will air on Tuesday morning at 7:50.

Jan. 12 ~ January Thaw

A January Thaw does not make good photos ... puddles, potholes and melting.
Instead, I will continue with photos from the Yurt Adventure, blue skies, ski tracks and fresh snow.

Saturday 11 January 2014

Jan. 11~ Lac Philippe

The trail beside Lac Philippe comes to the end of the lake,
where it continues on to Herridge and Healey cabins and other trails.
There is always something special about this vast view looking down the lake,
be it winter or summer.

Friday 10 January 2014

Jan. 10 ~ Yurt

After dropping our packs back at the car, we skied The Balloon, so named for the shape of the trail.
Blue skies, fresh grooming, great company ... fantastic!

Jan. 9 ~ Yurt

The Dawn of a New Day in Gatineau Park.

Jan. 8 ~ Wanakiwin Yurt

The Wonderful Annual tradition of a night in the yurt was rewarded with blue skies the following morning!
Linda, Odile, Judy, Rose Ann, Gloria and Peg.

Jan. 7 ~ Camera Club; My Best Travel Shots

My Camera Club friends selected these photos as my best Travel Shots of 2013.

Jan. 6 ~ Zooming again

Occasionally the sunset sky is visible from our upstairs window.
On this night, I tried a zooming shot.
Deeper colour would make it more impressive.

Jan. 6 ~ Experiment

Just after Christmas, our beautiful hibiscus was in a single bloom for four days.
I placed it in front of our Christmas tree, for a dark, contrasting background,
 for a classic, traditional shot.
Then I tried an experiment.
Set the shutter speed for 1/2 second, and zoom out while the shutter is open.
The interesting "artistic" hibiscus is below!
My book calls this method 'zooming'.

Jan. 5 ~ Hanging On

At the trails at Davidson Road, several trees cling to their amber leaves,
providing some colour to an otherwise drab landscape.

Jan. 4 ~ Saturday on the Canal

Even though the ice quality was not great, lots of skaters were eager to be out on the ice,
end-to-end-to-end!

Jan. 3 ~ Light

This early morning sunlight hit our across-the-road neighbour's home with great intensity.
I don't understand the source of the four light splotches to the right of the window,
but they really make an interesting photo!

Thursday 2 January 2014

Jan. 2 ~ Jump into the New Year

The squirrels and birds in our backyard provide endless entertainment!
No matter how Bob tries to prevent the squirrels from getting onto the birdfeeder,
the squirrels seem to out-smart him!
This one is en route to the sunflower seed buffet!

Jan. 1 ~ Something 'New'

Something 'new' for New Years Day; the Canal is Open!
It opened yesterday, Dec. 31, and, in spite of a light dusting of snow, it was glorious to be skating!
It looks like a black and white photo, but it is really a monochromatic environment.
